Letter from Roger Geronimo
To all CPU grads:
You have not heard from us in awhile as we’ve been very busy working so we
have lots to update you on.
As you know there is just a handful of us, all CPU grads, that have been
working on our project to open Columbia Graduate Institute. Here’s where we
are and what we’ve done to date:
1. Legally and officially
organized two new organizations. Columbia Graduate Institute and the Columbia
Graduate Institute Foundation.
2. Since the law changed in the proposed state of licensure, we had to
then re-incorporate both entities in that State as well.
3. The lengthy process of IRS non- profit status, 501 c-3, was
approved and received for the CGI Foundation.
4. When we officially apply for State licensure, we were told that we
needed to submit a copy of all our forms, documents, policies, procedures,
handbooks and manuals. These all had to be written, edited and then finally put
into a professional and consistent format. Rodney was instrumental in
accomplishing this.
5. All degreed programs are completed and documented in detail.
So we are ready to go. What’s next?
1. In October, I plan to take a trip to the State of licensure and review
brick and mortars to house CGI. My hope is that an investor or graduate will
purchase the small building as a longer term investment (especially at the low
real estate prices today) and lease it back to us at a very low reasonable
price. (a dollar a year would be nice !!)
2. Once the above
occurs we will move in and apply for State licensure.
The issue we have. frankly, is that our small group has done all this work
gratis AND has donated thousands of their own money. However these processes are
expensive. It costs $300-$400 to apply for and receive State incorporation which
we had to do four times total. Your friends at the IRS now demand a fee of $750
just to submit an application for non-profit status. The fee for State licensure
application is $2500 and the cost to print professionally all our forms,
documents, policies, procedures, manuals and handbooks will be enormous as well.
There will be some furnishing and cabinets to procure, deposits for utilities,
and start up cash until licensure is approved and we can officially offer
programs.
Therefore, I am requesting
that you please consider a donation via
PayPal on our website. If you know the e-mail addresses of some of our
more famous graduates, or anyone you believe might help us financially, then
please feel free to forward them to me. We will also consider issuing stock in
CGI for larger donations, however I must first propose this to the Board for
discussion and approval.
This site and the CPU
alumni forum/association, and of course the transcript services, all of which
are separate legal entities distinct from CGI, will continue as will our
continued support for our over 7000 graduates.
Thank you for all of your
patience and support.
With Sincere best wishes,
Roger
